Officer Eric Barker and Officer Ricky Bryant were shot and killed from ambush while working an off duty, uniformed security job at a local apartment complex. They were investigating reports of a suspicious person on Glenwood Road when they were ambushed and shot by two suspects at approximately 12:30 am.

2nd suspect in DeKalb killings turns himself in

DeKalb County Police have arrested a second man in the shooting deaths of two off-duty officers and continue to search for "at least one more suspect," Chief Terrell Bolton said.

In a news conference Thursday morning, Bolton said the man arrested was Deanthius Jamal Johnson, also known as Little Man, of Decatur. Johnson turned himself in at the DeKalb County Jail early Thursday. He said Johnson was taken to the jail by a family member.

Johnson, 28, is charged with two counts of murder.

His arrest follows that of Herbie DeShawn Durham, 32, who was charged with two counts of murder Wednesday evening after being questioned at police headquarters, Bolton said.

The chief on Wednesday refused to elaborate on any motive for the killings or how Durham was identified and captured. Bolton released few details about Durham, except to say he had a criminal record.

i think capital punishment should be automatic for any first degree murder. so that a small percentage of innocents are saved, the process should be extremely quickened in the courts. you start from superior court and end up in the state supreme court in a max 1 year. CA, you automatically go the supreme court, however, the supreme court is not set up for those kind of appeals, so they lag, big time. after state court, you get to the federal app district within 2 years from date of conviction. this of course allows you to try to get cert at the USSC (some cases get there quicker).

of course, the problem is, will the judges/justices do their job if they know there is a rush on this case?

there has to be a middle ground. if those that even thought about killing someone, beforehand, knew, that when caught they would face certain death, i am sure the murders would decrease drastically in this country.

You got it. Justice, but justice carried out swiftly. Yet the bleeding hearts will always bend over backwards for the killers
