The last 2 contests were based on "best posts" during a set period of time. To be honest, it didn't appear to generate a whole lot of interest.
I like having contests as a way of giving back to the community and generating a little buzz...
What do you think would be a good style of contest? Serious replies please!

Not much of a contest, if there's only one obvious choice...

I would say that the best post contests were a great idea. Perhaps having a recurring one (say quarterly) or a theme based one (Like, Make the case for _____________).
Other options are to ask a question, best post to answer the question (not in debate form, essay form if you will) wins by acclamation.
Head to head debates where the participants puts up some cash and then they go at it. Winner can take all, or it can be payed out via percentage based votes....... If the participants are putting in some cash, then that takes some of the $$$ heat off of Jimmy and it ensures an all out effort.
Of course today was just over 12 hours, 5 windshields, and 400 miles of route driving. I could just be shell shocked.

Nobody likes reading long essay style posts. I didn't read a single of the best post winners.

Which explains your lack of knowledge on certain subjects. I read everything I can even if I disagree with it. It allows me to have perspective.

It takes effort to read long boring essays that are just opinion pieces. Most people don't rad opinio pieces from people with different opinions.

It does, but I care more about what people who disagree with me think than those who agree with me. Just because I read something doesn't mean I need to post a comment. When I have something to say, I will.
