So far Huckabee is in a substantial lead for the Republicans. Edwards and Hillary run closely for the lead among Democrats with Edwards inching upward.

What a GREAT DAY FOR AMERICANS!!!!!!!

As I have said earlier on this forum, Edwards is my fav among Dems and Huckabee is my fav among Repubs. This is turning out to be a race for my own heart!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, the Republican royalists will never allow someone that low-class to get the nomination.

Why would any true conservatives want a candidate that appeals to an obvious socialist loving dimwit?

two networks now declare Obama wins Iowa......

most interesting commentary...."two out of three activist Democrats have said, 'anyone besides Hillary'........

I wonder what the old school Democrats will say if Obama decides he actually wants to MAKE policy......will they treat him like Jackson and throw him out of the party?.....

heard one interesting statistic....Obama won Iowa by polling high among first time participants in the caucus (40% of the Obama caucus voters had never participated in a caucus before).....that means that without those new Democrats he would have ended up with around 20% of the vote instead of 37%.....what effect will all these new Democrats have on the party?.......

Dick Gregory of MSNBC reports that white women that had previously identified themselves as Republicans showed up and caucused for Obama.

I don't know what to think about that.

Wrong. Huckabee is not a conservative. What you're saying is the RINO's support Huckabee.

Let me refer you to the CNN YouTube debate. M.Huckabee was the only conservative on the platform.

Also, the population of Arkansas will sincerely disagree with you (as a self professed representative of conservatives) and punish you in the general for having said that.

Mark that down, gunny.

The press, however, covers the nomination process as an unstable event by creating an illusion of political drama in which almost any candidate may rise from the pack to win the nomination or the frontrunner may stumble on political mistakes and lose the nomination (Gurian & Haynes, 2003). This illusion of drama hides from citizens the fact that the process is stable and, therefore, limits voters’ choices—hardly helping them “to control their own destinies.” By characterizing the process as unstable, I contend the press contributes to its stability; thus, the press is complicit in limiting voter choice, a phenomenon I call the primary instability paradox.

Let me make this plain: The story that the press tells about nomination politics does not accurately describe what's happening. The press is a player in the system and helps determine the nominee before any primary voter ever enters a polling place.

It's time to tell a different story of politics in America.

I like Ann Coulter's line...

Huckabee is a compassionate conservative, in the sense that it's compassionate to call him conservative.

Honestly, if I had to call something, I'd say Huckabee was the pick of disaffected Republicans who didn't much like being TOLD by the press that Romney, McCain, Giuliani or Thompson were their only choices. That may have been at work with Democrats, too, who didn't like being commanded to support Hillary.
